MICHAEL D. BIGGER, SCULPTOR

"CONSTANCIA"
"For six months in 1993, I lived and worked in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, as a sculptor -in-residence at Grupo Villacero,
, one the largest steel product manufacturers in Mexico. This residency was arranged
by Casa Nuevo Leon, which is the free trade arm of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, located in San Antonio, Texas. In exchange for Grupo Villacero's warm and gracious hospitality, I designed
and built, with help from many Villacero employees, "CONSTANCIA"
, a monumental sculpture dedicated to the people of Monterrey and Nuevo Leon. "CONSTANCIA"
is 40 feet long, 16 feet tall, eight feet wide, constructed of welded steel, coated
with polyurethane, and weighs 19 tons. It is sited in front of Zincacero, one of
the newest of the Villacero industries."
